I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted. We have just been SO BUSY that I haven’t had time to sit down and write. My sincerest apologies for the delay.
Now let’s get to business- So there’s this awkward angled space between the door wall and the shower wall of our guest bathroom. I talked about it towards the end of this post here. I wanted to add some sort of shelving in that space, but wasn’t sure how it was going to turn out. Here’s a photo to jog your memory:
Disregard the lonely laundry hamper at the bottom of the photo. This space is pretty much unusable because it’s pretty narrow and shaped like this when looking from above:
Also, it’s behind a freak’n door and squeezed behind the shower wall. I wanted to do something with this awkward dead space, and it took me a while to come up with a plan. Eventually I decided that shelves/storage of some sort would be nice. You can never have enough storage space, amiright?
At first I thought I wanted to do white shelves that were sorta like a built-in cabinet, similiar to these:
But then I talked to David. Who said, “that’s gonna be complicated.” So, then I thought, what if we did an open shelving? Something along the lines of these:
I wanted white cabinets to match the beadboard and the other trim in the room, but then I got to thinking- what if we contrast the sterile, white, traditional items with a more natural elements? I needed to tie in the wooden mirror frame and the natural brownish colors in the shower tile anyways. I sorta switched up my vibe to rustic/traditional in this guest bathroom by going this direction with the shelves. Plus, I thought if we ended up hating the natural wood, we could always paint it white. So I looked around and got inspired by these pretties:
And David agreed with the design plan and got to cutting, building and installing:
Here’s what it looked like before he put on the pretty face trim part:
And here’s the after. Not so bad!
And here’s a few before and after’s:
It’s hard to get a full-length photo of the shelves since the the bathroom is so teeny. Here’s a trippy one with the reflection in the mirror.
And now I can say that this guest bathroom is complete! High five!
